A federal judge has ordered U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to halt construction of a proposed detention facility in Gilroy. The order follows a lawsuit filed by attorneys for the State of California and Santa Clara County, who sought to block the project citing environmental concerns.
According to the Mercury News, U.S. District Judge Eumi K. Lee—appointed to the Northern District of California—ruled in favor of Santa Clara County and the California Attorney General’s Office last Friday, issuing a preliminary injunction against the proposed ICE detention center.
