The official overseeing the Gaza ceasefire plan associated with President Donald Trump criticized Israel on Wednesday (August 26) for its attacks on the war-torn Palestinian territory, warning that failure to adopt the U.S. proposal would result in “the next war.”
Nikolay Mladenov, the senior representative for Gaza, insisted to the UN Security Council that Trump’s 20-point plan had not stalled but had “moved from the negotiating table to the engineering table.”
Mladenov stated on Wednesday that Hamas had agreed to the proposal’s key terms—namely, disarmament and the transfer of control over Gaza to a civilian government. However, ongoing Israeli attacks—persisting since the ceasefire last October—continue to cause Palestinian fatalities (albeit in significantly reduced numbers), and Gazans say the conflict drags on.
