According to the New York Post, President Donald Trump signed a document on Thursday ordering the renaming of Lake Ontario to “Lake America.” This move comes amidst an escalating trade war with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney over tariff issues.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office that day, Trump stated, “We are going to change the name of Lake Ontario—effective immediately—to ‘Lake America’.”
Trump added, “We have submitted all the necessary applications, documents, and other relevant materials, and have notified everyone who needed to be notified. We have done everything required. This renaming is official and takes effect immediately.”
